Watching Escaflowne made me cry. Again. ;.; I just wub Hitomi and Van too much and I hate how they never really got a happy ending per se (as many others can agree XD) But they ending was good and bittersweet and it's one of the few series I never mind watching over and over... yes, even in dub format. As long as I block my ears and pretend that the theme song exists, I can handle anything!
FrouFrou is my love. George'll flying this one~ lalala
This was written way back when. It needs plenty of editing but the back of my eye sockets are hurting, so I don't feel like it anymore. Maybe I'll post the nice edit of it in the ffnet account or something. Whatever. I've completely forgotten where this story was heading, but I never know where my stories head anyways :)
God, what a piece of overdramatic shit :/ Ah well, to the editing stages!

Chapter 1
Calling of the Winds
~
The winds rolled across the grassy plains with an air of indifference. It carried the smell of dry grasses but also the premonition of things to come. A lark cried in the distance, honouring the setting sun, but the wind continued on.
It riddled every crook and nanny of his soul and refreshed him. His eyes, half-lidded, stared blankly into the horizon. The cerulean blue sky was painted with white clouds, almost mimicking fresh snow.
He stood from his perch within the tall grasses and the heavy black cloak that swathed his lithe body flapped quietly. It wove in the wind like a wave, teasing the figure's feet and his iron-tight grasp.
The sun reflected off the endless ebony of his eyes.The air cackled with energy. The smell of smoke grilled in his nostrils like an opium of dizzying pleasure...
He smiled.
It was an expression so maniacal, so frightening, so utterly inhuman that the flames that roared behind him seemed to rise in disgust and fright. With a grand gesture, the figure threw off his cloak and it blotched the sky like a dark wraith. A pair of wings unfurled from his shoulderblades, the white of dove feathers a terrible contrast to the man's sanity. He grasped the hilt of his sword and grinned.
'Oniichan.'
A soft, crying voice. The figure's eyes crinkled at the voice that protruded through his mind, a memory, but it increased the steel grip he held on the sword.
'Oniichan.'
He raised the sword in the air, against the fiery inferno, against the virgin blue of the skies, against the little sanity he still had left. The symbol of Fanelia, engaved on its hilt, gleamed blood red.
'Oniichan.'
And with a decisive and clean strike, he brought down the blade down his back, slicing the angellic wings and pooling blood on the damp earth. He held back the tears of pain as he felt his wings fall down lightly on the ground.
White feathers. Blood. His own. His family's. His home.
'Oniichan.'
He stabbed the sword into the dirt and keeled forward, grabbing his cloak and wrapping it around himself. It was the only source of comfort for him right now, for he was already tumbling down the twisted tunnel of darkness and his Destiny.
He rose on weakened knees and dragged his body though the plains, all the while staring blankly to the distance. He never looked back. He never looked back.
He NEVER looked back.
The sword, glistening with his blood, now poised vigilantely in the ground. Destiny had great hope for the one who was to truly bear this sword. Great despair and heartache was what it represented, but in a new light, it was the symbol of hope and forgiveness.
He stared hard against Destiny and ignored the nagging feeling in his heart.
'Oniichan...'
And let a tear finally drop from the sharp features of his face. It was his final farewell.
But the wind continued on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She blinked against the sun that blazed like a halo in the sky. Her eyes lit up with excitement and anticipation of the upcoming day. Just a few days from now, she would be entering the annual Track and Field Competition. As usual, her best friend, Tomoyo, sat in the bleachers, cheering away like crazy through the lens of her camera.
Sakura sweatdropped and her shoulders sagged at her best friend's over exhubrence. You'd think that after being best friends for so long, Tomoyo would eventually get
accustomed to her, but...
And that Kero! That little lion was probably eating through her cookies! Not to mention playing with HER videogames!
She tugged the Key of Clow that dangled around her neck. She still kept the little magical, winged artifact. It held her memories and symbolized a responsibility that somewhat burdened her. The coach hadn't arrived yet, but she was anxious. There was only one thing, or should I say boy, that was on her mind.
"Sakura-chan! Sakura-chan!" a voice cried from the distance.
Sakura's heart leapt and she turned around, her emerald eyes shining with happiness. A young, tall man jogged to her and presented her with a little bag of pastries. He adjusted his glasses over his warm brown eyes and smiled chripily.
"Yukito-san!" Sakura exclaimed, "I thought you wouldn't make it!"
The silver-grey haired man clicked his tongue and waved his finger, "Since when did I ever miss one of your training sessions? I'll always be here cheering you on!"
Sakura blushed madly and rubbed the nape of her neck. She peered behind her crush and grumbled under her breath, "I knew it was too good to be true!"
"Well, seems like the little squirt actually was able to even compete in the Track and Field! You never were even able to run to school on time..." Touya teased, looking at her through half-lidded eyes.
Sakura marched up to him and swiftly kicked his right shin, delivering a shock of pain through her brother. She stuck her tongue out at him, "Oh! At least I'm not a fat and lazy slob!!"
Yukito chuckled, the mirth of the familiar sibling fight scene being quite ironic. They were always arguing, Sakura and Touya, but he could see that they cared for each other very much. Too bad they were both too stubborn to ever openly admit it.
A shrill whistle rang in the air and Sakura perked up from her arguement with her older brother. The coach had arrived and was summoning everyone in. She gave one more stick of her tongue and jogged to the meeting place.
Touya brushed back his thick and dark hair, his quiet eyes glancing at the ground.
"Come on, let's watch from the bleachers," Touya said, waving at Yukito.
His friend nodded and his eyes glanced briefly at Sakura before ascending to their usual seats. There was something different in the winds. he couldn't place his fingers on it but something was indeed going to change.
He chuckled to himself. He must have eaten too many pastries today.
But the Yue inside him, was concerned.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"On your marks! Get set! GO!"
Sakura bolted from the start line, honing her mind on the finish line. It was only her, running and pumping her legs against the sturdy track. The wind whipped at her short, honey brown hair and she inhaled the smell of her sweat, the excitement, the thrill of running.
For a moment, she was indulged in pure bliss. There was no outside would. She was
running, she was alive and she was... free!
This was just like back in the Card captoring days.
'Funny' she steered herself around the bend, 'I haven't thought about that for a while...'
Ever since she had captured all the cards, she felt that there was one event, a blank in her life that was missing. It frustrated her, not being able to know what that feeling was. She couldn't place her finger on it but it was important.
'It's the last bend!' Sakura thought to herself and with a enormous burst of speed, she launched her body forward, sprinting.
It was a tight race. Sakura knew that Jessie, one of her old elementry school friends and former track team star, was almost neck-to-neck with her. The rhythm of pounding feet urging her to rush forward.
She grit her teeth and willed herself to push forward. This was the thrill of the race.
Suddenly, the track around her disappeared and strong magical energy rushed into her senses. It choked and gagged her as everything slowed down to a trickle. She felt the energy drag her legs to slow down but what surprised her even further was a column of bright blue light...
... and the form of a young man with amber yellow eyes.
She gasped, finding herself about to crash into him. His equal expression of surprise made he reel back a bit but Sakura found that she simply... ran right through him. As if he were a ghost from the past...
Ghost from the past?
The floor opened from beneath her feet and Sakura was swallowed in the darkness. Orbs of magic swirled around her as she felt the familiar blaze of warmth from her Key. The golden symbol of the Clow hummed omniously above her and for a moment, she saw the silhouette of feathers drifting down.
All she could do was scream as she tumbled down the abyss.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sakura...
Watch out Sakura!
I'll always protect you Sakura!
You can do it Sakura... I believe in you...
S-sakura!
Sakura... I'm sorry...
I have to do this. I'm so sorry, but you'll understand. I'm only doing this because I...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Sakura-chan? Are you alright?"
Sakura blinked back tears that she couldn't describe. For some reason, a gnawing sadness drowned her heart. With the back of her hand, she wiped the tears away, looking at Yukito's concerned face.
He smiled with relief, leaning back in his chair. Yukito touched her shoulder gently, "Are you sure you're alright? You just fainted in the middle of the track. You scared everyone..."
The young girl nodded, but couldn't help but look confused, "I fainted? That's strange... And I had this crazy dream..."
No, it was more like a memory, it couldn't be a vision. The Clow symbol tugged at her worriedly. She had never gotten such a strong sense of premonition before...
"Well," Yukito supplied quietly, "dreams can tell alot about the future."
"Huh?" Sakura asked, finding that she had zoned out.
"Oh nothing," the man replied as he examined at Sakura, "I think you're just stressed. Hey, what's that around your neck?"
"Huh?" Sakura grasped her Key instinctively and sweated, "This? It's my good luck charm. I've had it since I was small."
The sunlight flitered through the blinds of the infirmary and was bathing the room in a pastel, dreamy glow. The Key barely even glimmered in the sun, much less reacted to magic anymore. Sakura couldn't even remember the last time she called upon the wand.
"Really? I never noticed it before," Yukito noted through his spectacles. Then, "Here, let me take a look at you. You might have a fever or a bump on the head..."
Sakura felt the blood rush in her cheeks and the blush spread through her body as she breathed in Yukito's distinct smell. He smelt like lavender, a soft and tickly fragrance. How she wanted to pass her fingers through his hair and kiss that soft, pale skin...
Suddenly, the door opened and Tomoyo walked in in mid-sentence, "Yukito-san, is Sakura...? Oh my!"
Sakura pulled back and Yukito sat back in his chair. He didn't notice that Sakura was blushing madly and had pulled the sheets to her chest. She knew that someone was going to break the moment. Yukito smiled at Sakura's best friend as she sheepishly rubbed the back of her head.
"Sorry! I hope I wasn't intruding in on anything!" Tomoyo apologized as Sakura silently seethed at her, but her eyes were playful.
"Oh, it's nothing Tomoyo-chan. I was just checking if Sakura didn't have a fever," Yukito stood up, "well, I have to go. I promised Touya that I'd tell him when you regained conciousness because, in his own words, 'who'll clean up the house for me?'"
"That stupid brother...!" Sakura grumbled as Tomoyo giggled.
As Yukito waved to them goodbye, Tomoyo sat by Sakura's bedside, "How are you feeling? I was so worried when you suddenly just crumpled on the track like that!"
"I-I had a really strange vision or something. But, it was like I already encountered it before..." Sakura quietly spoke as she rubbed the wings of her Key.
"Vision?" Tomoyo's brows drew together in contemplation, "was it about the Clow Cards?
Sakura couldn't seem to answer that and instead, recounted her vision to her friend. Tomoyo sat sagely, but was just as perplexed as she was when Sakura finished. Sakura pulled her legs over the edge of the bed and raked her hand through her auburn locks.
"It's all so confusing. I thought all that Cardcptoring business was done with and I could finally live a normal life," Sakura sighed, "guess I was wrong."
"There, there," Tomoyo comforted, "you know what you always say? Everything will be alright! If you could capture all the Clow Cards by yourself, you can do anything!"
Sakura smiled, knowing why Tomoyo was her best friend. She always knew what to say to comfort her and make her laugh too. Sakura smiled with new energy.
"You're right! I'm the best when it comes to love and card capturing!" Sakura glanced at her friend gratefully, "Thanks Tomoyo!"
Tomoyo winked at her friend but her eyes suddenly turned starry as she brought out her camera, "Ooooh! You're so cute! If there are going to be more cards to capture, then I get to design new costumes and tape you and..."
Sakura sweatdropped as Tomoyo continued to rant. There were some things that just never changed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So, how was practice, Sakura?" Kero asked, not looking up from the Tekken Tag Tournament he was playing, "Ha! Eat that!"
Sakura tossed her duffel bag on the floor and collapsed on her bed, exhausted, "I'm just so tired... Kero? How many hours have you been playing?"
"Not counting bathroom breaks... I'd say 12 hours at the least," Kero began to tap wildly at the buttons, "YES! SUPER DOUBLE TEAM!"
Sakure sweatdropped and realized that her floor was covered in little ice cream and pudding cups. She dragged herself off her bed and started to clean up her bedroom before Touya stepped in.
"Kero, you're supposed to be inconspicuous. What if Touya walked in right now? He knows I don't play fighting games."
"But I'm almost at the last boss! Curse you Kazuya!!" Kero exclaimed as he tried to fend against the character's powerful moves, "Argh! You're stupid Demon Uppercut! I'll get you...!"
With a dainty toe, Sakura turned off her Playstation 2 and picked an indignant Kero up from his situation on the floor, "I need to talk to you about something and I definitely don't want you mumbling about Phoenix Stances and Bow and Arrow moves. It's about a vision I had."
Kero peered at Sakura curiously, "What sort of vision?"
She proceeded to tell him about her vision but this time, when she mentionned an amber eyes boy, Kero stiffened. Sakura folded her hands over her lap and tilted her head.
"So, do you know what any of it means?" Sakura queried, knowing well that the Guardian beast indeed knew something.
"Hmm..." Kero rubbed his chin thoughfully and turned away from her, not wanting to show her his expression of intense worry on his face. He didn't like to, but he had to bend his words a bit.
"Sakura. Just be careful. Something's gonna happen... I don't know what, but I've got a feeling it's going to be bigger than the Clow Cards," Kero knew very well of what was going to happen but also knew what he was supposed to keep quiet, as much as he hated doing that.
"Oh, alright Kero," Sakura replied, not sounding entirely convinced.
The setting sun bathed the sky in a mix of pale oranges and magenta reds as Sakura's eyes stared at it unhappily. That strong feeling of magic and familiarity didn't want to stay suppressed in her.
The winds were carrying change. Change that was going to hang her life, and others, in the balance.
'Just what is going to happen?' Sakura asked herself quietly.
The Key glowed against her chest. She peered at her clock and slapped her forehead.
"Darn! I was supposed to go back to the track with Tomoyo and Yukito after a shower! Ohhh... I hope they're not going to be too impatient," Sakura rushed out of her room.
Kero sighed sadly, unconciously whipping his tail back and forth, "I hope ya appreciate this Syaoran. I don't know if you and Sakura can stay so ignorant any longer..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sakura dashed to the High school's track circuit, gasping for air. She must have broken a world record at the rate she had ran to the track because she certainly felt like she did. Yukito was already there with Tomoyo, who was adjusting the legs of her camera. She was dressed in a mustard yellow jacket over a knee-length red skirt. Sakura jogged over and greeted them as the clouds above threatened to pour. It was already evening and the streetlamps lit the sidewalks with an artificial glow.
She felt her duffel bag shuffle a bit and rolled her eyes inwardly. Kero seemed to be making himself quiet comfortable in her bag. A muffled cough made her smile. Too bad he doesn't like gym socks...
Realizing that it was time to train and not daydream, she dropped the bag on the side and laced her track shoes. A thought crossed her mind and with a hesitant hand, Sakura brought out her Key and hung it in the air. Yukito peered at it curiously as Tomoyo also looked questionnng. Sakura could barely hold down a blush but managed to gather her courage.
"Um, Yukito-san? I-If I can run this circuit in the time it takes to swing this pendant thirteen times, will... will.."
"Will I what?" Yukito asked as he held the little Key in his hands.
Sakura fidgeted nervously, "Will you bring me to my first date?"
Yukito blinked and Tomoyo squealed quietly. Sakura was scared of rejection and didn't
look up at all. Her crush smiled warmly and nodded, "Alright Sakura-chan."
Sakura brightened happily and Tomoyo gave her a thumbs up. She ran to the starting line and got herself ready.Yes! He said yes!!
"On your marks... get set... GO!"
With that, Sakura bolted ahead, to the finish line...
The Key glowed as it swung once.
... and to her Destiny.
But the wind continued on.
yaddayadda. Got a Bleach drabble and Juuni Kokki/Kokuki (can someone explain THAT significance to me?) drabble in the mind. Juuni's drabble will probably be about Rakushun XD Though I'm terribly bendable about the Rakushun or Keiki issue, since it's an established fast that Keiki can't frisk with the Empress X3 And Rakushun is hawt nekkid.
Bleach drabble... *thinks* I'm thinking of ficcing Hitsugaya or maybe Ichigo, since he's easier to get into character with. I'm all for Ichigo/Rukia, but Rukia needs to kick ass more. So maybe fic something where she just kicks ass and discovers her sealed cutter's name or something. Pure musing of course because of the whole unclear Hisana issue.
