O.o Talk about a broad topic. Which beliefs? All of them? Holy..... where to start this.
I guess above all else I believe honesty and truth is the way to be respectful toward yourself and others. Sometimes that makes my life hard because many people don't want the truth, they want to hear what they want to hear. On the other hand I cherish those who love me for my honesty. This ties heavily into my religion. One of the major tenants of the Kemetic faith is truth and speaking the truth.
I believe that people must lead by example. If you want kindness or friendship or a beautiful park or a better place you have to be willing to be the first one to step forward. (Ok maybe not always the first one but the point is if no one else is changing don't be afraid to start yourself.) People, in general, learn by watching.
I believe that dance is more than a series of moves. It is a moment when the mind and body become in tune and you go from expressing beauty to being the beauty itself. Dance is a meditative and healing activity unlike any other.
I believe everyone should be a steward of nature and the world around us. So far it is the only one we have and the only one we are likely to have. It's irresponsible to not take care of it in the same way it is irresponsible to not take care of the house you live in.
I believe that limitations are challenges to be overcome not burdens to hold us back. (Ok.. laws aside we need to abide some of those and things that directly harm others.) If someone tells me I can't, likely my response is I will. Success depends on breaking free of limitations.
I believe that dogs (and cats, pets in general) make the world a better place. Though look at how we treat them. It saddens me more than most other things.
I believe that what you speak and write is forever part of your spirit, soul, whatever you wish to call it. Lies never leave us and forever blacken us the same way the truth is good for our soul. (Yet another Kemetic religious tenant that I held before being of the faith I am.)
I believe there is nothing better than a good laugh when it feels like the world is about to crash, shatter or otherwise come down.
I believe learning should never stop. If learning has stopped I think a person has given up on life.
I believe that food is healing and adventure and joy. As a cook, you are the healer and the adventure guide and the merry maker.... those things should never be forgotten while we are in the kitchen. Nor should we forget as the consumer that we are being healed and taken on an adventure and being given a joyful experience.
I believe fashion is a way to express who we are to everyone who sees us everyday. Don't be afraid to share who you are with the world.
I believe that baseball will always be one thing in my world that will always make me smile and at the same time cure my insomnia. To me there is no sport like it.
I believe a person should spend their time doing three things. Looking toward the future for hope, analyzing the present for.. many reasons and learning the things that worked and failed from the past. This can be for a person's own life or their outlook for everything. It is very important never to get stuck in or forget any of those three.
I believe responsibility is an expression of courage. It takes more courage to say I have done something, bad or good, than to hang back and pretend like nothing happened. Not enough people in this world take responsibility.
To take a line from Stacyann Chin... "I believe holy is what you are when there is nothing between your actions and the truth."
I believe effort, untempered by fun and amusement, is work. It is our choice to work while we accomplish things. Who wants to just work when it can be something better?
I believe music should speak to something more than our ears or love of a beat. Music should be a connection. Have you ever heard the right riff or line or voice or composition and just fell in love with the way it made you think or feel? That is the magic of music.
I believe my insomnia is a gift. I'll get more time to do things in my life than other people because I need less sleep. Better believe I will take advantage of it.
I believe boredom means we are missing out on something great.
I believe religion, all religions (cults aside), have one goal... to improve who we are, be it through prayer or magic or magick if you prefer... or magik or worship... what ever... it is there to improve us. Anyone who says they have faith and fail to become a better person don't truly believe or are holding to one piece of the religion while ignoring all the other parts of it.
With that belief is.... I believe no religion (again cults aside) is wrong but it can be wrong for you. This does not rule it out from being the best thing that ever happened to someone else.
I believe in the Kemetic faith in the Old Kingdom variety.
I believe the joy of antiques is the memories they bring into our home of a time we wish we had seen.
I believe that a person can be the light in someone else's darkened world.
I believe a person can be the darkness in someone else's world just as easily.
I believe a child should be allowed to be a kid. Bumps and bruises and climbing too many trees and ruining at least 10 outfits a year in mud and paint. On the other hand a child should never be treated with less respect than an adult. Also a child should never be thought of as someone who doesn't need an explanation because they can't understand. If you choose the right words a child can understand just as much as an adult without the constraints of maturity.
I believe too many people forget to celebrate small successes and over celebrate the big ones most of the time.
I believe we should all take time to be grateful for the good things in our life. They are the source of our hope.
I believe loss is that part of our life meant to show us the true greatness of the thing now gone. We truly never know how good it is until it is gone no matter how much we cherished it while it was there.
I believe there is magic to watching the sunrise or the sunset.
I believe observation is key to understanding, appreciation, calm, tranquility and defense. Always take time to look at the world whether it is caution or to admire the roses.
I believe there is a fine line between knowing when to be hopeful and when to give up. That line is something you should learn the location of.
I believe part of the problem when it comes to hatred is too many people are afraid to be themselves. Those who hate others are afraid of themselves just as much as they are of the person they hate.
I think I will stop there. I don't want to flood the flist.
