How cute! I saw those all the time when we were out west, I don't think we have 'em here.

The house finch is in most of the US. You have them down where you are too. :)

Or both. They are a very skittish bird so it is possible they are flying before you see them. However they have a very distinctive flight call and song.

Our part of Virginia has been very settled for a very, very long time. Nevada and Arizona both feel very "newly settled." The wildlife is less skittish in Nevada and in Arizona, the wildlife barely even notices that human beings are there. In Nevada, I used to see hummingbirds peeking in the windows of my office building on a very regular basis. There's a river running through downtown Reno that's so clean, people swim and kayak in it right in the middle of the city. For many reasons, I don't miss it, but for some reasons, I guess I do :)

I can understand that point of view greatly. I'm always in the conflict of the convenience of the city and the "freedom" of the country.
