It's not just dogs.

Y'know, the likening of dogs to children really distresses me. Not because I think dogs deserve bad treatment, but because my faith in humanity where it comes to pets is long shattered. I can't even think about people treating children with as little concern as they treat their dogs...

That I think is what makes this commercial so powerful. The flip side of it is that a lot of children are abandon and neglected too.

I was about 8 when I realized that people bought bunnies and chicks to put in their children's easter baskets, with the full intention of abandoning them or something once they stopped being so cute.

It's far far deeper than a commercial can deal with.
