Week 3…back in action…

May 07, 2007 15:16

Well the illness has passed for the most part and although I am still more tired then I would be normally, I have managed to rebound quite nicely. I still can’t imagine eating Indian food again but I’m sure that will come in time.

There are, in fact, several different kinds of Indian food ranging from North to South and East to West…I never realized just how different the various provinces of India are. The instructors here have been trying to explain the differences but English often escapes them and they end up speaking their native tongues when they get frustrated…you can imagine what this does to my frustration level…!! But all in all they are a great bunch and I was surprised to discover just how many of them are women. They have a great time discussing the men of the office and are not that different from women I know in Canada…in fact they are just as snippy…!!

Our new apartment is much better then the old one with a nicer bathroom and a resident gecko…he lives behind the light switch and often shows up to watch you take a pee…its only mildly disconcerting. He also eats the cockroaches which live in the walls although he seems to hate the legs and often leaves them lying around the bathroom floor. Nothing says exciting like stumbling into the bathroom first thing in the morning and stepping on roach bits…oh well…better that then actually roaches. I also discovered a tick the other day…to my disdain he was not blue or at all funny…I killed him.

Near our new residence there is a huge mall…or what passes for a huge mall in India. Mostly it is made up of really cheesy cloth outlets and shoe stores but occasionally you find a store of interest. I have discovered some nifty shirts at the Nike store…they are all about the cricket and it entertains the shit out of me…!! Cricket is still a bit of a mystery to me but the locals are more then happy to try to explain the rules…well the guy at the Nike store was happy to tell me about the rules but then he was trying to make a sale so…who knows…!! I have also found myself watching a lot of field hockey, as it too seems very popular here. I figure field hockey is at least a form of hockey and so my need for sports is fulfilled…kind of…

I have finally begun my teaching duties here although they currently do not involve teaching. Xplora has decided that my experience will help them mold their 3d programs here and so I am sitting in on various classes and helping them improve their student output…I am once again doing quality control…!! I sit in a sweltering class and listen to teachers drone on about 3D Studio Max and write down notes about how the program could be improved…sigh…I know…not that glamorous but at least I am doing something constructive…

My program does not begin until the 21st of May…well actually that is when the 2D portion of the program starts. Technically I do not start teaching until 2D is finished, which will be the 4th of June. That’s right folks…another month of sitting in India on my butt and telling Xplora how to improve their program…oh the excitement…I can barely contain myself…can you feel the sarcasm…?? Heh…such cheek…!!
Anyways…I miss everyone terribly and am hoping to at least get started on my Tommy Flanagan web page sometime in the not too distant future. This would allow me to do something creative that can be seen worldwide...and yes…it will look good on the old resume…!! For those not in the know, I was made head of a fan site for this Scottish actor and ya…the web page sucks and folks here can hopefully help me change all that…hussah…

But let me know how you all are doing…I fear that some emails are not getting through as the connection here is crap at the best of times…just drop me a note and let me know you’re out there and that the worlds hasn’t disappeared since I left…!!

Cheers,

Erin
