Hey all. Haven't been up to too much lately. Greg (co-worker) flew in last week and has been staying at the same place as me for the past little while. We went out to check out the city a few times. Last weekend we went to see the British Museum and walked around sight seeing one of the days after work. We went to some of the same places I had gone the weekend before so I don't have a whole lot to report.
In other news, the stuff I'm working on is EXTRAORDINARILY boring. The majority of the London office's work is back end banking software for big UK banks. so imaging creating mock ups of spreadsheets filled with random numbers and jargon that is far beyond my understanding.
Anywho, Now for some random observations:
-After work one day me and Greg went walking around downtown London to see Tower Bridge, Big Ben, etc, we had a difficult time finding ANY convenience stores or news stands that were even open. I kept an eye out for a good hour and I saw nothing... No store, restaurants or even coffee shops were open(not even big chains like starbucks or the local fast food chains). All I wanted some something to drink but it seemed like the city had shut down after 6.
-The internet seems to suck here. I can't really judge this by the free internet I'm getting in this apartment buuuuuuut on cable they advertise "high-speed broadband" as 20mbps. Rogers basic is 54mbps. Maybe I'm missing something here... I don't really know.
-Little differences in the language take a bit of getting used to... stuff like "take out" is "take away" or all the tube stations have "way out ->" signs instead of "exit" signs. Also I love that they call the subway "the tube" lol.
-Cars have the right of way in London. So if you get hit by a car its your own damn fault for wandering into the road. It also means people seem to drive faster on the narrow roads.
I guess thats enough gibberish for now...
talk to you all later
