Well, my dad just plopped a book down in front of me today, and told me, "I want you and your sister to read this." The cover was a vibrant red, and I was like, "Woah! Tone down the color, please!" After I got over the random color shock, I scanned its cover and its title is A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations: Do Hard Things.
It has a foreword by Chuck Norris. No joke!
I've yet to begin reading it, but I've found some very, very interesting reviews on it on Amazon. Mostly good ones, but I had a good time reading the few bad ones. (I always do.) The inside cover flap says,
"A generation stands on the brink of a "rebelution".
A growing movement of young people is rebelling against the low expectations of today's culture by choosing to "do hard things” for the glory of God. And Alex and Brett Harris are the leading the charge.
Do Hard Things is the Harris twins’ revolutionary message in its purest and most compelling form, giving readers a tangible glimpse of what is possible for teens who actively resist cultural lies that limit their potential.
Combating the idea of adolescence as a vacation from responsibility, the authors weave together biblical insights, history, and modern examples to redefine the teen years as the launching pad of life. Then they map out five powerful ways teens can respond for personal and social change.
Written by teens for teens, Do Hard Things is packed with humorous personal anecdotes, practical examples, and stories of real-life rebelutionaries in action. This rallying cry from the heart of an already-happening teen revolution challenges a generations to lay claim to a brighter future, starting today."
Interesting... My first thought after reading that was, "Uh, no. I'm drowning in OVER-expectations!" Then I watched a little two minute video at the book's Amazon page, and apparently the authors meant that people are too ready to assume that teenagers are "immature just because they're between the ages of 13 through 19." I guess I can agree when it's put that way. I don't know what to think of Do Hard Things currently, but I'll definitely be reading it (on top of studying, writing, homework, and... GAH!).
Oh, and I got shiny Raikou today, too! :D
Pretty lucky considering that today was the last day to get him. ._. And, my dad just went to the town (about fifteen, twenty minutes away) that has the GameStop yesterday and I was seriously doubting that he would go again. Lucky me! :D
Alright. There's my post. Good luck in school or work (or both for some, maybe .__.) this week, everyone!
