So I ordered a mac mini from the apple refurb store. It took me a few weeks of intermittent looking to nab one (they don't show up that often and go very quickly).
This will be our media centre for the house. We've run a month-long trial with my work laptop, a macbook pro, and we think this will suit our needs for now. I was wondering about apple tv, but I wanted an optical drive and some brains as well. After reading this blog:
http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/journal/mac-mini-media-centre, I decided to do the trial before rushing in.
I'm bringing it into work to get bootcamp/XP installed for the times when we need to run windows. But for the most part we'll use the native OS and the front row interface.
A co-worker will loan us his wee bluetooth keyboard to see if it works better than the wireless one we had from the media centre pc...if it does, we'll likely get one through the refurb store as well. :)
Once it's hooked up, I'll be burning ALL of our CDs and then packing the bulk of them away.
Will be posting updates/tribulations as they come up.
