This time I'll let these guys spell out the drama for you. Suffice to say, if you love me I want your name on this petition. Save Coney Island!!!
http://www.petitiononline.com/saveci/petition.htmlHere's the article pertaining on what to sign...
this is what I wrote, very similar to an email I sent out earlier, but I'm about to bomb the ol myspace with my rantings, where I think I have a pic of Luna Park(if you don't know, it was lost in a fire long ago, but it was supposedly beautiful...the pics are glorious. Some old NYers still say something's "lit up like Luna Park" if something's really bright. *sigh*)
Born in Astoria, raised in Brooklyn,I know Coney Island is my history as much as anyone else's.My Great-Grandparents,Grandparents,Parents,myself and my progeny have all gone there for a Nathan's hot dog, rides, salty sea air with a gyro;to reclaim pieces of the past that are so tangible there. We can't relinquish this for some corporation to make more money,it is our heritage.Instead, they should be forced to renovate what we already cherish about Coney Island. They owe this place a debt they plan to repay by destroying it.I now live in the midwest, and let me say,a mall ain't no Coney Island...it has no character whatsoever. A mall is the same everywhere and there is only one place that captured and crystallized into the imagination the times this location came to symbolize so well in American history.Shall we tear down Monticello for a mall?In the long run,it is better for every person in the country for us to save our cherished landmarks by doing them the courtesy of landmarking them before they disappear.
Please help, I was only #97. This is ri-god-dang-diculous.
