twilight wonder

Mar 10, 2006 23:55

It is snowing outside my office.
Right on the floor of the desert plane.
Every few minutes a little knot of reporters, receptionists and ad reps gathers in the glass foyer to watch it fall.
Women's voices rise with controlled delight as they call their husbands to see how far abroad the miracle has reached, then report to one another about where it's "sticking."
In-bound reporters pass off impromptu traffic reports to the ones headed out into the wide and whitening world.

A miracle of dust and air and ice that makes me ache, here, chained to this desk.

{BREAK}

I went outside for a moment.
Found myself walking a footpath in the Judean hills.
Standing on a peak in Austria.
Running down a mountain ahead of the storm.

Winter is different when it comes to you, then when you go and find it.
