I'm in a bit of a pickle. So, I have two places that want me to do my internship with them. I have kind of blown off one because I don't have money right now and I can't really afford to not live with M and D.....My lease is up at the end of June and I don't want to put myself in a situation where I can't afford to live....at least with M and D I can still have a place to live and have food. So the two places that I have to choose from are Stafford P&R (which I have worked with before) and Camp Baker in Chesterfield....
Camp Baker is a camp for special needs individuals. It would be a great opportunity because it would be something new and it would definitely use my degree. The down side of this is that from my apartment it would be about a 45 minute commute everyday. The up side is that rooma is pretty sure that they would pay me. The people that work there go into rooma's bank and cash their checks there so she talks to them a lot. Rooma keeps telling me that they are asking about me and want me to work there. When I had talked to them before the guy told me they are looking for a recreationalist to come into their program. Which I am pretty sure means that they are looking for someone to develop programs for the constituents. (Wow, I used a big word....) This would be really cool. Another up side to this is that they are looking for someone to work in the summer that will lead to a full time postion....(M told me that that should not be my main focus for working there....but it's kind of hard not to keep that in the back of my mind...) (L told me that i should take this one because she thinks that I would be good with this type of job...or something to that effect...) NEgative parts about this job include: commute/gas money, it's not familiar...i don't know what to expect, lease situation... Positive parts about this job include: I'd be developing programs (which would be cool), I'd be getting experience in a different part of the field, I'd be meeting new people in the field. etc.
Stafford P&R is just like any P&R Department. They run different camps, different programs....but instead of coming up with the programs I would be implementing them. I have worked with Stafford for 2 years now so it's familiar to me. I know what they will expect from me. As much as I hate to say it...I know that they will give me a good eval during the internship...I think that Stafford would pay me...but it wouldn't be as much as Camp Baker. Stafford has a fun atmosphere and everyone there is really super nice. They have helped me A LOT since I have switched to be a parks and recreation management major. They have been there every time I have needed any kind of information about park systems for papers, projects etc. I am pretty sure that they are counting on having me during the summer. Negative parts about this job include: moving home (Everyone seems to be moving home now, which in and of itself wouldn't be bad...I just wouldn't have my own area in the house), pay is questionable (I don't know if i would get paid for the internship or how much i'd get paid), i don't know if it would lead to a full time position, moving out of Richmond area--really the only negative part about that is that I would be moving away from my friends down here...... Positive parts about this job are that I like the environment/people--i get along well with them, it's a fun job, They would probably help me find a job afterwards--if not in stafford somewhere else....
I'm a very indecisive person and I don't know which one I should pick....parts of me say to go with Stafford becase I am pretty sure they are counting on having me....parts of me say that I should go with Baker because they will definitely pay better...and I know that that shouldn't be my reason for picking a job because 9 times out of 10 it will mean that you are unhappy with the job....but I just don't know what to do.
