Marin Hand and jenni Cole were sweet enough to get me, for Christmas, Showcase Presents the Superman Family Volume 1. This book reprints several issues of Superman family comics from their earliest years, viz and to wit the first 22 issues of Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen, inter alia.
The first (of three) story in the second issue of Olsen's title feature Olsen obtaining super-powers and wearing a skirt (more. It all turns out to be not a hoax, not an imaginary story... yes, you guessed, a dream!). Didn't take long, did it?
One thing that I must say surprised me is the remarkable consistency of the creative personnel: Binder/Swan/Burnley for the entire first 22 issues with the exception of one story in No. 2, which is inked by Stan Kaye.
I suspect that this is a dip-in book, which I shall progress my way through at a sedate pace. However, so far, it seems to be more enjoyable than The Essential Hulk Volume 1, which suffers from musical creators to an inordinately high degree. Not to mention the lack of direction (or possibly constantly-changing direction(s)...).
