My mom said that she went to visit my grandmother at the convalescent home that she's staying at in the city yesterday. thanks for sharing this t. - i really appreciated reading it. it's a good reminder that community and friendship and the capacity to create them really are blessings. it makes me sad too but also motivates me to do something, even if it's as simple as looking at folks in the eyes and acknowledging them and sending good thoughts and wishes their way. it's the least i can do.

yeah...when i was visiting molly in the hospital her roommate had only one visitor, her son, who stayed for a very short period of time and left and later that night she passed away. was just having this conversation with some people about how our society and other "modern" societies just throw away the elderly (and other displaced/disabled/etc/etc people) once they're old and can't be "productive" anymore. i feel like this dynamic really sets up the failure of our interpersonal relationships with our individual families if there isn't a strong base to begin with. i guess it just makes me feel very fortunate to have the family and community of folks that i have and want to keep it healthy and strong.
