getting to the bottom of me being a racist...

Dec 11, 2007 00:23

So today Karen came over. I was happy to see her so I could have a chance to apologize for my horrendous actions the other night, and also to find out what exactly it was that I said.
I said "Hey Karen, sorry for coming across as a racist at your party. What exactly did I say?"
She said "oh, it's okay. You said stuff about asians and you were introduced to a black guy named Bobby at that other party and you referred to him twice as "Bobby Brown".

What???!!!!

"did you actually witness me call this guy Bobby Brown?" I asked, unbelievingly. "yeah."

I HIGHLY doubt that I was all "hey!Bobby Brown!!!" That is just totally not my style, nor do I see how that is the epitome of racist. If I did in fact say that, which I 95% believe I did NOT, then I think I can just disregard that as acting like a retard. If someone got their panties in a bunch over that, then I'm sorry. Granted it's obnoxious, but give me a fucking break...
I mean, not to belittle it, but if I were a racist, I could come up with something better than that.

The asian remark - fine. yikes. I owned up to that one. I said it in my own home around friends who I did not think I would particularly offend with my sarcasm. And I can say that I did say it a bit to dig into Chris, because he is always harping on how I will not "acquire a taste" for foods such as sushi.
I am firmly against sushi (and yes, I have tried it in another scenario where a friend forced it upon me after I stated that I was not interested). I am against sushi to the point that I will declare that I hate asians to get out of being the target of this 'let's try and feed Tanya food she really doesn't want to eat' campaign....
But I know that I would never have made such a broad and offensive remark in the general public amongst people I don't know. anyhow, whatever. It's stupid.

And for the record, I say just as many or more horrible things about americans. I wouldn't mind saying a few right now.
