my dad sometimes emails me responses to my postings:
Good Morning,
Just some thoughts on your live journal post.
Does this "fuck" appear to be competitive? If so, perhaps he wants to go to a school where his times are more in line with his peers. As for my opinion, it seems that this, "fuck" does not and did not fit into the NUTRACK family. As a coach one would like to think that team unity is far more important than hiring one star that is an ass. I mean after all winning a couple races are far less important than disrupting all that has been worked for. On the other hand, Maybe this is just something that you will have to endure, I hate to think of what this would do to you mentally, I know you far too well to think that this would not have some sort of impact on you. Other things to think about, are this guys top times consistent? Was his pr a fluke? If he is consistently that much faster than you wouldn't that put him in a different league? Meaning wouldn't consistently faster schools be recruiting him also? In conclusion, sometimes you just get outdone, it is no reflection on you or your efforts or your abilities. I understand your desire to remain top dog. Perhaps this is where guts come in, your ability to endure more than he. You cannot allow the fragility of the position of top dog to underscore what you are doing and what running has done for Tom Brown. I hope and pray that this all works out satisfactorily for you. hey paw, most of these issues have already gone through my head despite my not writing about them in my livejournal. 1. He is very competitive. 2. His times suggest he go to a school where he could train with a group of his peers. While the NUDIST men could not provide this for him, the post grad guys that Renny trains can. So most days he wouldnt be running with us anyways. Its tough to like a guy that gets "special" training, and even tougher to accept him into the team. 3. He does not fit into the NUTRACK family at least as far as distance running goes, and frankly he really is a dickhead. We addressed this to Renny, who told us that he wasn't recruiting friends for us, that he was recruiting people that were fast, Renny then told one of the kids "And hes faster than you, so were gonna try to get him." ouch, yes i know. So apparently even though every kid that met him complained to Renny that he sucks at life, Renny doesnt care, he just wants a fast guy. Hopefully it wont discourage the guys, or me, from continuing onward. 4. This may be something i have to endure. But i really don't want to, i really enjoy my life track wise right know, and this would throw a large wrench into the gears. 5. Flukes, there are no flukes in track, you cant throw up a shot from half court and get lucky. If you go out too fast, you don't just get lucky and don't get tired. Thats why i love it. Also, runners don't make shit up, or call a course accurate if its short. Real runners couldn't live with themselves if they lied or cheated on a course. It doesn't do anything for you, because if on race day you don't preform like that, you look like shit. 6. He is in a different league. My team however has been called the best team per dollar in the country, we simply are not a distance powerhouse. Our track team easily beats teams with twice the funding consistently. Its not like he is looking at worcestor state and hesser college, hes with some of the best teams in the country. He is being recruited by BC and Villanova, but BC has no scholarships, villanova supposedly offered him a full his freshmen year, that he turned down. 7. Sometimes you get outdone. true, but being outdone during my senior year after leading the team for 3 years is mean. 8. Perhaps this is where guts come in. I think i addressed this in my journal entry. I want all the 4:20 guys in the world to come in and give me a run for my money, bring them on. Id love it. I would love trying to out-gut these kids, having guts wont help me in this one. Its like me racing a bunch of other kids on track bikes i have a pretty good one, im pretty strong, it would be pretty even and competitive, everyone has a good shot. BIG FUN. Then this kid comes in with a ducati street motorcycle. NOT FUN ANYMORE. 9. I know that the position of top dog is a frail and enviable one. It does not define who I am as a person nor will it be the first time i am not the top guy. Im just mad because i want a shot at it. I just dont want it to be violently torn from me. 10. The good news, he still has to visit the other schools, hopefully he will like them more. Love the Boy
