Moving to dreamwidth or staying on lj?

Dec 25, 2011 20:14

(Please note that with some time of waiting in the dreamwidth queue the entire community including all comments and settings can be moved to dreamwidth.)

Poll Move to dreamwidth or stay on lj?I'd also like to say, for those who don't know yet that dreamwidth is going invite code free til the end of the year. However, you can also post without having an account here ( Read more... )

Why don't you simply wait for a while? It's obvious they are going to make the necessaries changes after all the feedback they are getting about this new system (unless they are retards).

LJ doesn't always roll back changes after people complain about things. There have been times in the past where they have, true enough, but considering the shift in the dev team and the particularly dense nature of LJ's customer service, I really don't see this one being reversed. The changes have already been coded, and there are so many more that they've already paid people do. It's highly unlikely that they'll simply throw it away.

Where is that obvious? Up to now every single thing I've read from the lj team makes it sound that they are not going to budge on this. In fact, someone higher up called it "non-negotiable". No matter how much the staff directly in contact with us maybe really listen, the ones up there don't care.

The results so far are roughly 2:1 in favor of moving, with 61 votes having been cast in the past day or so, which is a pretty fast response, considering you posted it on Christmas. I know your post has an end date already announced, but how many votes should we wait on before deciding? (I have no idea how many people frequent this meme, but it can't be more than 100, can it?) Just asking because moving during DW's grace period would be a lot easier on everyone, if we're going to. This is totally 100% your decision, though.

Also, if we do end up waiting until later and then DW goes back to the regular invite-only system, could we have a post somewhere on the meme for us to exchange invites so that everyone can make it over there okay? Just a suggestion, but I think it'd be really nice.

Uh, actually I set the end date that late because I assumed no one would really be checking around Christmas. lol I'm surprised by the response as well. And then it went by when I'd have time to next initiate everygthing which landed me on a weekend. Because I'm going back to work soon.

It is a bit of a problem with the invite codes. Not that they ARE a problem once you get a hang of it. And I know of at least two invite code comms on lj. But we can definitely have a post for them once that period is over. I have some codes left myself. Thing is, no matter which option we'll go for in the end, we can't make everyone 100 % happy, so I at least wanted to get the idea out there while dw is going invite-code free.

Might I suggest registering there (if you aren't already) while they don't require invites, and making a community that this community can be imported to once they have it rolled out? Communities are free to make and don't require invite codes - you just have to be a registered user. So once you have an account, you can make the comm at any time, whether or not they have imports ready... but if you wait, someone else might get in their head to make a DW mirror or something, and you'd have to switch to a different comm username for the meme because someone already made one. :P

Then no matter how long the poll runs, or how long anyone waits to decide, at least the community will be there if it is decided that it should be imported.

(I also have several invites I'm not using, so I can save 'em for people here if they only decide to move if and when the meme moves. ;))
