August -- gardening, shopping, forgetfulness, oh my!

Aug 17, 2022 10:03

As July swiftly rolled into August (seriously, did I blink and miss it ALL?), summer no-spends have quickly turned into fall stockpiling. (Shhh, winter is just around the corner!)

Ohio has had a "tax-free" weekend at the beginning of August for at least the last 5 or 6 yrs, so we always take advantage of the opportunity to stock up on office/art/school supplies, replenish undergarments, and allow the kids to buy new shoes and at least one new outfit, as everything else is usually secondhand. This year they did exceptionally well, thanks to incredible sales and my keen eye for bargains.

In addition to stocking up for another school year, I also took advantage of the opportunity to stock up on paper goods, cleaning supplies, and journaling/planning items. Canning season is imminent, judging by the near-daily hauls from the gardens in the backyard. Urban homesteading at its' finest! And thanks to a lucky thrift store find, we are now the proud owners of a practically new-in-the-box dehydrator! So now we can preserve greens, dry out herbs faster (we make a lot of our own seasonings now), and even make tasty snacks like dried fruit, veggie 'chips', and of course, homemade jerky!

And since I haven't updated in nearly a month (busy schedules and forgetfulness will do that to you), have a lovely photo of the clouds from this morning's sunrise. :)
