I decluttered -years- worth of emails this week. From my Yahoo email account, which I have had since the early 2000s. I keep it strictly for a handful of accounts, including the Amazon account I created back in high school.
Digital decluttering is something we often forget about or overlook, especially with all of the physical clutter demanding our everyday attention. I have to admit, it was utterly satisfying to unsubscribe from things I no longer use, like Groupon, various NFL team newsletters, and even Dunkin Donuts' emails.
And in their place, I found things worth saving, like blog posts from Harry Potter book clubs, various chats and "musings" written by friends of mine and myself, and even baby photos of one of my nephews, emailed back before we all lived in the smartphone era. Eventually, I will dig through the "sentimental" emails and decide which of those are indeed worth saving, and which are worth reading one last time and saying farewell to. Part of my minimalist journey is making sure my digital life is just as uncluttered as my physical one. I haven't opened the majority of those emails in years, so more often than not, they are not important enough to continue to hold on to. It's yet another step in a new direction. One that I am finding more and more freeing.
