I made that Yankee Stew I mentioned- apple cider, venison stew with cranberries. I learned a few things:
- Dried cranberries dissolve when cooked in a stew. Add them last.
- I need to stage the ingredients more to keep things more differentiated.
- Rice doesn't absorb as much liquid as you think it should.
- I don't like stew.
The last one there was kinda a deal breaker. I know I don't like stew, but I thought, for some reason, that "this time, it'll be different". Why? No idea.
Next "big" meal? Cajun catfish in red beans and rice. That, I know I like.
