Social media marketing

I've been pretty busy since I started with the new job some 7 weeks back. It already feels like it has been longer. Perhaps it's because I've worked here before, or it might be that I have come on so quickly. Well, the guess pace has always been fast here.

Anyway, I'm suppose to kick start the company's social media marketing efforts on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Youtube. We already have several Facebook fanpages in existence, but I am really hoping to grow that. So many possibilities there... But I guess the word on every marketer's mouth at the moment is Twitter. All the world is a tweet, indeed.

I've thrown about several ideas so far and my boss wants me to develop on the execution part of it. I don't want to rush things here, so I will take a little more time planning and integrating all of these together. Social media is a balance of communicating and sharing. Since it isn't traditionally a marketing channel, it is not going to be as easy as splashing the pages with advertisements.

I hope I can pull together a suitable team from most of the company's functions to embark on this with me. What would be a good name for us? Facebook League of Extraordinary Ascott Staff? Mighty Tweeting Power Workers?
