Talent Draft

The final selection of the Talent Draft Initiative organized by the IAA and IAS was held at NUS. The brief was given to us on Friday morning and we had 24 hours to work on it.

My team (randomly chosen by the organisers) was made up by 2 students from SMU, and 1 each from NTU and NP. Overall, I would say that we were a pretty strong team. Because the brief was so brief, we had to gather our own consumer insights (much thanks to those who entertained my calls!!), company background and we took quite long simply deciding where we wanted to take the brand. Eventually, after 8 freaking hours of brainstorming, the team finally all agreed on an idea that came from me! Then the 2 guys of the team were tasked with the drawing of the storyboard for the TVCs. I can't believe the girls all claim they can't draw! It took the other guy and myself 3 hours to finish. How retarded of us! It was close to 5am when the team finally completed everything. We managed to churn out 2 print ads, 2 storyboards, and an outdoor billboard in one day! Most of the other teams had none of all that.

The 30-minute presentation went well and all the judges liked the idea! In fact, they liked it much more than I did. I wished I had done better presenting, because I was the one introducing the main campaign concept and selling the "big idea". But I guess I am being too critical of myself once again. I always have this inferiority complex when it comes to my presentation skills...

Working with a bunch of strangers for a full 24 hours without any sleep is not as tough as I expected it to be. Do we get along well? I must admit that I didn't much like the 2 university girls. I thought they were pretty rude as they were bitching and complaining a lot about NUS in my presence. But the SMU guy and I clicked pretty well. Unfortunately, the meek girl from polytechnic seemed overshadowed and she did not grab opportunities for herself. In general, it was pretty fun, even though I was so tired that I came home to crash for much of the whole of Saturday. It will probably be even worse in the real world, but I'd like to think that I can handle such things.
