I probably haven't been in a CD shop for too long.
After having dinner at Scotts yesterday, I decided to shop at Gramophone as they were having a clearance sale. I didn't plan to buy anything in particular and I certainly wasn't thinking about buying "Ta-Dah" by Scissor Sisters. Frankly, I didn't even know who they were. It was just pure chance when I picked it up. I recognised the first song on the list because that was in Thomas' MSN.
Then, a shop assistant came by with an ang moh and picked up a copy of the album and said, "this is the last piece." I instantly bought it. My professor once mentioned this in marketing class. Strange how shopping works. Anyway, for $11.90, I thought I've got a steal. I was slightly bothered by the "SPECIAL SINGAPORE EDITION" printed on the cover, but had assumed that it was just some censorship thingy.
When I flipped open the papers today, lo and behold! There was an article about these cheaper locally pressed CDs. I felt totally cheated. Supposedly, these CDs are of the same quality as normal ones, except they do not contain usual booklets found in the sleeves. Instead, it is merely a flimsy and cheap-looking two-page sheet.
They should have made it known to buyers! How the fuck was I suppose to know I was paying less for less!! And there I was, like a fool, thinking I've had a bargain. Angry!
