Seven years on...

May 29, 2004 17:53

Well, for all of those who didn't know - today, the 29th of May 2004, marks the seventh anniversary of Jeff Buckley's death.

I don't want to post a sad and depressing message, because although it was a tragedy that he was taken away from the world, I don't want to dwell on that too much. I'll try and stick to the positives.

What am I doing to mark the occasion? I went to Dusk in Woden today and bought two medium sized scented hibiscus candles and they're burning on the desk, to my right - making my room smell nice and purty. And for the rest of the night I'll be listening to Jeff's music - to Grace, Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk and Live At Sin-É.

I really don't listen to him often enough. His music is so amazing, so wonderful...Except that's where the problem is. With uni I don't really have time to just sit down and listen to a CD and take it all in. Whenever I play music it's usually when I'm making my bed, or in the background. And Jeff is so NOT background music.

Okay, I promised I wouldn't be sad, but how is it fair that death can claim such a gifted and talented man at such a young age? He'd only released one album...Imagine the quality and quantity of music we'd have if he was still alive today...I guess we have to be thankful for what we have though.

I wish I'd gotten to see him perform live.

Before I go, check out Jeff playing his piano. Oh, and someone please fork out $2000 so I can buy the signed Grace plaque in Utopia Records in Sydney. Cheers.
