"Mama! Mama, that Barnaby guy is in front of Mr. K's place! He looks really mad!"

Lisle pulled her son away from the door. "Go to your room, sweetie."

"But Mama, Mr. K is-"

"I said go!"

Her son slunk off, looking worried as Lisle stood near her door, wringing her dish towel in her hands as she listened. 'It's not eavesdropping if it's to help someone, it's not eavesdropping if it's to help someone...'

"Damn it Old Man, don't make me come in there! I swear to God if you make come in there-!"

Lisle's temper snapped, and she slammed open her apartment door. "How dare you."

Barnaby turned from Kotetsu's door, scowling at her before his face drew into a mask of surprise. "I beg your pardon?"

"Just because you're a NEXT, you think you can do whatever you want!" She snapped, a white-knuckled grip on her towel. "Just because Kotetsu isn't as strong as you are, you think you can bully him and hurt him!"

Barnaby held up his hands. "Ma'am, I think you're mistaken-"

"I know that when he smiles at you, you don't smile back! He always comes home beaten up- you're just taking advantage of a lonely older man!"

"Taking advantage-?!" Barnaby sputtered, but Lisle waved her finger at him, cutting him off.

Lisle jammed her finger into Barnaby's chest, her rage overriding her common sense, and drowning out the little voice that was demanding to know what the hell she was doing he was a NEXT he could easily kill her- "Kotetsu may be a normal human being, but he's a hundred times the man you are! Get out of here, right now!"

"Ma'am, please-" Barnaby kept glancing back at Kotetsu's door, looking slightly panicked.

"No! You bastard! You monster! If you don't get out of here right now, I'm calling the police!"

Barnaby scowled at her and shot one last look at Kotetsu's door before he turned on his heel and walked off.

"And don't think I won't call your sponsors about this! I better not see you around here again, you hear me young man?!" Lisle kept shouting after him until the elevator doors closed. She hurried over to Kotetsu's door and knocked, gently. "Kotetsu? Kotetsu it's okay now, he's gone..."

Kotetsu opened the door, looking surprised to see her. "Ah, Ms. Lisle..."

She took his hand in both of her own. "It's okay now, Kotetsu, I've chased him off. I told him if he came around here again, I'd call the police. He's not going to hurt you ever again."

Kotetsu frowned at her, looking confused. "Hurt me? What?"

"Didn't you hear all the shouting...?" Lisle frowned, concerned.

"No, I didn't. I was in the bathroom."

Lisle's mouth dropped open. "He was threatening you!"

Kotetsu shook his head. "That's just Bunny, he doesn't really mean it."

"But- you've been coming home hurt! He can't be allowed to get away with hurting you just because he's a NEXT and a Hero-!"

Kotetsu blinked at her. "I come home hurt because I do a lot of physical labor at my job. I work for his sponsors - it's how we met."

Lisle blinked at him. "...so he's not abusing you?"

Kotetsu shook his head. "Bunny would never."

Lisle bit her lip. "...well, I'm not apologizing for chasing him off. He needs to learn how to behave like a decent human being if he's going to be picking you up for work."

Kotetsu smiled. "I'll let him know. Thanks for looking out for me."

Lisle flushed and tucked her hair behind her ears. "Yes. Well. That's what good neighbors do, Kotetsu. Have a good day." She turned and walked back into her apartment, her face flushed.

'I can't believe I just did all that....'

However, the embarrassment did not stop her the next time she saw Barnaby outside Kotetsu's door. She cracked open her door and cleared her throat, eyes narrowed as she glared at Barnaby's head. He turned to look at her, and she lifted two fingers to her eyes before pointing them at Barnaby, and then slamming the door in his face.
