Earlier that day, the police had been tipped off about a ship that had been smuggling arms and drugs. When the coast guard had stopped the ship, they found nothing illegal on-board. Suspecting that the cargo had been tossed off the ship (or boarded on another vessel), the authorities were on the lookout for suspicious items. And then they found a generic looking luggage floating. They picked up the luggage expecting to find drugs, what they found was a badly mutilated corpse of a young girl. Thinking that a potential serial killer may be on the loose, they immediately contacted the heroes of Sternbild city. The authorities decided that this case, was better left unaired.
As soon as he received the phone call, he ran to place that Barnaby had described. He should've known why Barnaby had refused to tell him the details over the phone.
The rest of the heroes were already there. Origami Cyclone was covering Dragon Kid's eyes, this was way too horrible for a child to behold. Fire Emblem was trembling, Rock Bison looked grim. Blue rose was on her knees shell-shocked, Sky high was trying to shake her out of it. Kotetsu was wondering why they all looked so grim when everything seemed to be normal.
And then he saw it.
A police officer was passing by with papers in tow. The officer handed him a piece of paper to inform him about what ha transpired.
He looked at the paper and at the police office. This. This can't be happening.
Filled with rage, he grabbed the officer's collar. Kotetsu shook the officer, while shouting that he had to be joking. That this was some sort of joke. Kaede was not dead. It was just someone that looked like her.
He did not care if he gave his identity away. All he could think about is how she had suffered.
The man he had grabbed was already shaking with fear. Barnaby had to intervene before Kotetsu harmed a civilian. Barnaby grabbed him from behind and forced him to drop the officer.
He wanted to hit Barnaby, that officer, anyone. Just to relieve the pain. He struggled, even activated his powers, just to get away from Barnaby, and let the world feel his sorrow. But Barnaby held him tight, Kotetsu could see the faint bluish glow which meant that Barnaby was also powered up.
He could Barnaby's voice, ordering him to calm down. Hurting civilians would not help them find the murderer.
Kotetsu stopped struggling. He knew it wasn't Barnaby's fault, neither was it the police's fault that this happened. It was his fault. For failing to protect Kaede. Tears started to well up in his eyes and he felt his knees give way.As he sank to the floor, Barnaby held him and reassured him, that they will find the killer. And that Kaede will be brought to justice.
Little did he know that while Barnaby was comforting him, telling what he wanted (no, it was what he needed to hear at the moment), Barnaby was rejoicing that Kotetsu was his now.
And the only person who could've taken him away from me is gone. He smirked as he took something out of his armor, placed it on his palm and crushed it.
As they walked away, colored plastic fragments of what used to be a flower hair were left scattered on the floor, soon to be forgotten.

And thank you for the sequel, really!
I want to hug them both so much, yeah, yeah, even Bunny-chan.
Keep it up, it's awesome! In a very disturbing way but still very awesome!

Now I want a sequel where, after much investigating, Kotetsu is the one who finds out who the killer is. And, uh, justice happens, I suppose.
