Wherein my Journal Theme is Appropriate...

Nov 16, 2009 17:20

It's cold! My boiler has stopped working. Gas man can't come out til tomorrow, stupid boiler. Think warm thoughts for me. I'm off to set fire to something (or dig teh electric heater out, one of the two.)

While waiting for the boiler man to not call me back I cleaned out my harddrive, where I found this little scene, set after the Torchwood radio play 'Golden Age'

“I,” said Ianto with the air of someone making a great announcement. “Don’t like India.” He handed Jack the cup of coffee he’d brought up from the hotel bar. “Also you realise this is further ammunition for the ‘people who don’t like coffee are not to be trusted’ theory?”

Jack smiled but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. Still he knew his next line. It was an old in-joke between them. “The Doctor doesn’t like coffee.”

“Merely proves my point,” answered Ianto following his part through. He frowned. “Jack?”

“I’m okay,” said Jack on reflex. “Just tired.”

“Right,” said Ianto. “It’s been a long day.”

“80 years too long,” said Jack softly.

Ianto sat next to him on the edge of the bed. He didn’t say anything; he just took a sip of his own coffee. But he pressed his leg up against Jack’s.

“You know,” said Jack, holding the cup in his hands and staring out into space. “I always sort of thought you’d like the Duchess.”

“I did, until the trying to kill us and everything,” said Ianto. “You do leave an impression on people.”

Jack smiled weakly. “It’s the jaw line.”

Ianto chuckled. There was a long quiet moment. Filled with the weight of Jack thinking.

“Seriously Jack it wasn’t your fault.”

“Yes it was,” disagreed Jack. “It always is.”

“Must be heavy, carrying the world on your shoulders like that,” said Ianto taking a sip of his coffee and looking away.

Jack set his own coffee on the floor away from them then took Ianto’s and put that next to it. He pulled the younger man into his arms and kissed him.

“Not that I’m complaining,” said Ianto as they broke apart. “But what was that for?”

“Just because,” replied Jack.

I probably meant to go somewhere with that, but I can't for the life of me think where...

Also while your here listening to me waffle,

I did enjoy 'Waters of Mars' but I'm begining to think that RTD might need some therapy. The whole 'you can't save peole and you probably shouldn't try' thing is mightily depressing. I really thought he was going to take the Captain to meet her grown-up granddaughter. Was that just me?
