Sittin' At The Dock Of The Bay Ianto drove the van into Cardiff. The one place he thought he’d never go back too. His mother was still living somewhere in Adamsdown - as far as Ianto knew. They hadn’t spoken in years.
He pulled up outside a dilapidated building. The owner had started to convert it into flats but had run out of money. Ianto was looking after it for him, being paid a tiny sum of money but it meant he had access to a power source and that was the only thing that mattered. Lisa would be safe here while Ianto worked on the next part of the plan.
Getting Lisa out of London, keeping her alive, had been such an achievement all on its own. The incomplete implants in her body were trying to operate the way they were designed to, but that put too much pressure on her human system. He’d had to pull over several times on the way to Cardiff to restart her heart.
Still they were here now; Ianto could get the life support machine up and running. Settle Lisa. Then find somewhere to dump the stolen van. His contact in London had given him some idea of where he could get morphine for Lisa. That would do until he could talk his way into Torchwood Three. They would have more than enough supplies for him to able to help Lisa.
He refused to think what would happen if he couldn’t find a way in.
Getting Lisa installed was easier than you might think. Ianto had carefully labelled the parts of the machine when he dismantled it in London. It wasn’t quite as simple as just ‘plugging her in’ but it was close. Ianto felt sick and wanted to laugh all at the same time. He pushed the feeling down and continued to work. He had a plan. All he had to do was follow it though.
He came back from dumping the van. As he got into the building he could hear Lisa sobbing. He rushed down to her.
“Ianto please!” she cried when she saw him. “Please it hurts!”
“Shh,” soothed Ianto. He fumbled with the last of the morphine as he attached it to her IV bag. “I’m here love.”
Lisa cried and Ianto just wished he could hold her properly. Without all the life support machinery and metal implants. Eventually Lisa fell asleep. Ianto stoked her cheek, trying not to think about how cold her skin was. This was going to work. Then it would all be worth it, just to see her smile again.
“I’m going to get you out of here,” he whispered to her. “Torchwood Three will have everything you need to get better. I know of some people we can contact to help. Then we can go where ever you want okay? Somewhere far away from here. Just us. I promise.”
