I've just now come to the realisation that folk metal has probably been my favourite music genre for about two years now. The reason this must be the case is because it always cheers me up. Nothing can cheer me up when I'm in a foul mood, but folk metal can XD That in itself is a good enough criterium for favourite genre.
Maybe that's why I've been in such a bad mood lately, I haven't been listening to my folk metal. *does so and downloads more* I'm in a better mood already than I've been in days. Fascinating o__o TEH POWER OF MUSIC.
Rudra = 'Vedic metal'. o-O I just found this out on blessed Wiki. Must find MP3s.
Shaman, later Korpiklaani. I downloaded a bunch of their MP3s nearly two years back but haven't kept up and now they have two more albums! *downloading spree* They used to sing in the Sami language, which is so very cool, but they sing mainly in English now. I want to call them sellouts because they are, but the English stuff is good too.
That picture is the coolest thing ever!
This all reminds me that I want to go to Finland someday. Goals are a good thing, better than depression! I want to learn Finnish and then go to Finland and live in the far north and learn Sami! Yes! ^__^!!!
Haha,
Korpiklaani interview. Q: What Finnish beer could you recommend to us Americans? And what beer from the States do you like?
A: The band has never been to the USA so we don't really know much about your beers. But Budweiser cannot be the best you have, right?
Their not-quite-perfect grasp of English in some of the songs is actually very awesome, because it leads to things such as:
"I'm alone again
And old pine tree asked me, where's your woman?
I said: Shut up or I make of you another firewood" XD
One thing I like about Finntroll is that they have this running joke, or at least two short tracks, about these two priests just minding their own business in the church or sauna or wherever, and then villians of some sort come lay the smackdown. Those poor priests. They can't just do their thing without becoming the victims of violence. Rotten luck, eh. *checks* Their names are Aamund and Kettil. If I had two cats, I'd love to name them Aamund and Kettil, and then people would be like, "WTF?" and I'd get to explain =P
The amusing thing is I hated any sort of aggressive-sounding music for much of my life, now I think it's the best kind of music. =P Actually, now I can find things to like about pretty much any genre. I used to be so picky and had a very narrow sense of what was good. It's all good. Except anything resembling Norah Jones = puts me to sleep. All the rest is good. Whee.
