At long last

Took a nap, and when I awoke...Six Feet Under was ready for me.

I almost don't want to watch it.

Oh, but it IS both written and directed by Alan Ball. Remember how I mentioned that would be all it would take to make it good in my eyes?

*shuts up and watches*

It was so amazingly beautiful to watch Ruth and Brenda, first in the delivery room, but most of all on the staircase, with Ruth giving Brenda everything she could. I bet that's something Brenda never ever got to have ~ a mother's unconditional love. And Ruth herself has never looked so comfortable with herself as she did in the second half; not just her clothing, but with her.

It's done.

I've only once cried at the ending of something like this (and only once at an episode of Six Feet Under). Not to do with personal sadness, or pain, or heartache, or loss, but the sheer emotion of the show itself. The writers, the actors, everything combined so that I felt I knew these people, and felt what they did. It was an amazing show, all the way through.

I'm grateful that, though everything did get wrapped up, in terms of each character's journey, it wasn't contrived so as to happen just for the finale. There was passage of time within the episode itself, all the way through, and things happened as they should, because the opportunity was there and its time had come, not simply to tie up loose ends. They've been working towards this all season, of course, but it could have been a lot more obviously put-together.

I am glad it was ended before it got too old for itself. Truly.
