Summer. It's getting warm inside. That's not too great for computers to start with.
Add a third hard drive (better transfer speeds than the external USB case), with its extra heat, and a coincidental subsequent shortage of molex power connectors requiring disconnection of both case fans...heat goes up some more.
Easy solution, right? Open up the side and let the wind run free through the case. Problem solved. Except ~ Case sits near the floor, I live with 2 cats who like to shed and explore, and there's a lot of dust around here. Not too great for the internal components, even if I Ultra-Dust™ the crap out of it on a regular basis. Cause I'm good at neglecting things like that after the novelty's worn off.
Solution? The Asshole left me with some mesh screen that I figured would come in handy someday. Then my eyes came to rest on a rather large sheet of heavy cardboard that was lying around. Bingo!
I'll do the other side, too, but that's not *quite* as much of a concern. For right now, I'm just glad the cats can't get inside and there's a barrier to keep most of the hair and dust out, while still letting air flow through. I'd like to get the fans running again, of course, and those two blue lights on the front at the same time....but one thing at a time.
