Kitty Post: Uh oh....

Jun 22, 2005 13:12

He's got the sniffles and has started sneezing quite a bit.

Maybe keeping him in the bathroom wasn't the best idea? Ah well, what's done is done. Shelter kitties tend to get respiratory infections no matter what.

Time to break out the syringes, pull out the blender, hop down to the pet store for some wet kitten food, and keep my hands clean between pettings.

So, no introducing him to Dante just yet. Somehow I don't think the old guy will be too disappointed.

(I'm not too worried, *knock wood*. He's healthy, he's warm, and he doesn't have any kind of underlying condition. Szara was sick when I got her: we had a heart murmur to contend with, she'd been born with and run free amongst other feral cats and got her shots late. This guy's been better cared for thus far.)

ETA: As of about 3 pm he's been quarantined back into the bathroom until he's better. Dante has a fully developed immune system, but what with all that's been going on lately, the stress is likely to have made him more susceptible, so I'll be watching for that and giving him plenty of assurances and TLC. On the brighter side of things, Dante came to visit me in the living room, sniffed all over the place (yes, I know, what better way to expose him to the illness, but by the time he'd started sniffing it was too late) and he didn't growl or hiss once the whole time. This is looking good!

Mambo's still sneezing, and now also sounds sniffly when he breathes, but neither his nose or eyes are running. He's still eating his solid food and drinking lots of water, which is good. I stress again (mostly to myself) that he had his vaccinations 10 days ago and was born and raised in a healthy environment, so as long as he stays hydrated and fed, he'll be fine.

Must pick up some saline drops in case he gets stuffed up.

ETA: About 5:20 his right eye started looking a bit moist. Just checked him at 7:30 and it's getting weepy. Nictitating membrane (third eyelid) visible at the corners of both eyes. He's still very active, playful, energetic (when he's not sleeping, of course) and is eating and drinking as usual.

(By the way, these edits are really more for my benefit than anyone else's. You're welcome to read them, of course, but it's mostly to help me track his health.)
