Today I've been doing some spring cleaning on the hard drive.
It's got me wondering, why for instance even though only about half the tracks in the music library have a genre associated with them there are over 70 Genres?
Do I really need a genre called "alt. Rock" and "alternative/rock" not to mention "pop-rock", "pop/rock", and "pop rock". And what out of curiosity is ROICK (ok probably a typo but really).
I certainly don't need a genre called 50ies with one album in it, especially since that album is also a soundtrack.
Why are there genres named after bands or musicians, or even albums, if the option in there to leave it blank and you really can't decide leave it blank, end of problem.
Any way I am now down to 25 Genres, not including "none".
I actually feel this maybe a bit sparse, considering the scope and less so the scale of my collection, but I couldn't see leaving a genre with only one or two bands in it, (or in one case two songs) no mater how accurately it described the music. Sometimes generalsations are useful even necessary.
Maybe some of the vanished Genres need to come back but not all of them and not for at least 6 months or so.
