Hogwarts Exposed Intro and Chapter 1

Apr 16, 2011 03:26

The three-year summer was something of a golden age for Potterfic. It became clear in 2001 that we were no longer going to have a new Harry Potter book every year, prompting an explosion in fanfic to fill the gap, helped no doubt by new fans attracted by the films. It's during that time that it grew to become the largest fandom on FF.net, and many ( Read more... )

Szaleniec, NO! You have so much to live for!!

I was thinking of trying my hand at sporking this as a tryout for That Guy With the Glasses, but I at least want to finish my sporking of My Immortal first to prepare myself!!

Please, don't, szaleniec! I love you!!

XD

But seriously, dude, I look forward to the new My Immortal on Youtube.

I can see why the original sporking was done by a group sharing the load. I really started this because I had no idea how to follow something like Deserving, which I actually discovered by pure accident, but it's a whole new level of badness. It is the worst fanfic I've ever read, without a doubt. This is what I said about it on the TVTropes forum's worst fanfic thread:

There are other squicky fics (Agony in Pink, Celebrian (troll or not), Chibiusa's 7th, Cloud Mows the Lawn &c.) but nothing that can challenge [Hogwarts Exposed] for sheer volume of brain-melting literary sewage.

I've got the audio for My Immortal 37 so it shouldn't be too long before I get it done and uploaded. :)

Excellent!

Do you have any plans of what you'll do after you finish My Immortal?

One of my ideas for doing TGWTG sporkings was to maybe do it Linkara-style, reading passages from the fanfic and then sporking them afterward kinda like your dramatic readings...

You wouldn't happen to be thinking of doing a dramatic reading of Hogwarts Exposed, would you?

Probably Face the Strange or Starkit's Prophecy. They're the ones I'm getting the most requests for. I'm not ruling out doing something like Hogwarts Exposed as a reading, but I think this format is better suited to criticising it because I can go into far more detail as to what's wrong than I can with slides.

Good point, as there's considerable difference between My Immortal and Hogwarts Exposed.

Whereas MI is rather shallow and full of beige prose with a lot of jokes that either write themselves or are very easy to see...

The humor involved in a Hogwarts Exposed sporking requires more in-depth thought...

It's the difference, as I think you pointed out when you first suggested I did HE, between So Bad It's Good and So Bad It's Horrible. My Immortal is the former, Hogwarts Exposed is the latter and the other fics I've done I think have some of both.

I think the overall difference between So Bad it's Good and So Bad it's Horrible is that So Bad It's Good fics usually don't take themselves seriously. I'm convinced My Immortal is nothing more than a trollfic...and it was AWESOME!

Contrast HE, which takes itself so seriously it's downright painful. The fanfic involves copious nudity, obvious Author Appeal, obvious passages that were written just so the author could wank to them(just wait until the torture scenes), and robot unicorns named "Pureheart"...and Neil continues to push this series as legitimate literature!

Kinda like the difference between Street Fighter and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li.

The first movie was hilarious, cheesy, and entertaining(purely for Raul Julia). Legend of Chun Li was corny, narmful, and took itself so seriously that it couldn't have been So Bad It's Good...
