TV recommendation...
Am I the only one watching Skins on BBCA? I recorded it back when it started and now I'm working my way through season 2. It's brilliant, and unlike any American teen show, ever. Season one comes out on dvd on my birthday, so I think I'll just treat myself, because I would totally watch it all again and again and not having all the "fucks" blanked out would be a bonus.
Seriously, it's highly addictive and the kids are both funny and heartbreaking - manipulative, charismatic Tony, who screws with everyone just because he can; his best friend Sid, who's sweet, awkward, and unfortunately in love with Tony's girlfriend, Michelle - the sexpot of the group; spacey, fragile, anorexic flower child Cassie (who's in love with Sid); down-to-earth musically gifted Jal, who sees through everyone's bullshit and likes them anyway; beautiful, artistic, openly gay Maxxie, who wants to be a professional dancer, and his best friend Anwar, who tries to reconcile being a good Muslim with wanting to get high and get laid like all the other kids; Chris, self medicating any way he can to dull the pain of his dysfunctional upbringing, while trying to pursue a relationship with one of his teachers... plus an assortment of adults who are even more fucked up than the kids. Each episode features a particular member of the gang, and while there's plenty of angst, there are no "very special episodes," which is extremely refreshing.
