Oh, man. Totally agree about the tentacle head thing being scary for reasons other than scariness. I couldn't even watch those episodes because of him. It was just so freaky, and the tentacles just kept moving around. I kind of had the episodes on in the background while I did other stuff so I wouldn't have to look at it too hard. Major squick=tentacles on ugly head. Also, the American accents were horrible in those episodes. I really wish they hadn't done those two things, because usually I love the two parter episodes.
