[Public:]
[The video turns on to a mostly dark room, punctuated by lines of soft light that illuminate the edges and curves of the walls. The communicator has been propped up, like CLU had been ready to speak once the feed switched on. But instead, he sits almost motionless within the frame. His elbow is propped against the polished surface of his desk, gloved hand buried in his hair and head bent down.
For a long moment, he doesn't move a muscle; the only noticeable motion in the frame is the steadily sputtering flicker of his yellow circuits. Then after awhile, his fingers twitch. He slowly turns his head to the side, runs a hand over his face, then a few more moments pass before he pulls up, straightens, and focuses on the feed.
He looks drained, worn, and displeasure leaks into his voice once he finally speaks:] Whatever entities the 'Admiral' [because, as far as he can tell, it may not even be the same Admiral anymore] has allowed to overrun the ship are able to physically attack now. I walked down the hallway and received this-- [CLU lifts the comm up, turns his face to the side. There's an angry bruise that mottles his skin, as if someone had punched him hard on the cheek. When he sets the comm back down, his expression is harsh.]
On the Grid, the system I came from, there were defects called Gridbugs that caused malfunctions and disrupted system activity, ate away at code. Destroyed sections of the Grid. They were problematic infestations that could only be resolved by complete eradication.
And now, here on the Barge, these unknown entities appear and the ship deteriorates. If they are the catalyst--or even merely part of the cause--of this system-wide malfunction, if they are similar to an infestation of Bugs, then their elimination may facilitate the restoration of the system to a more acceptable condition. Remove the cause, recover the system.
[Ghosts never existed where he was from, and so CLU has needed to frame all this weirdness in terms that are natural and familiar to him.
The circuits on his suit do another unsteady, unhealthy quiver.] Provided that the Admiral--if it still is him--continues to refuse to permanently fix all this, and continues to merely find amusement in it, then the problem needs to be solved another way.
Is it possible to harm or destroy them? Has anyone tried?
[Private the Kay:]
I want my weapons--my identity disc--restored back to functionality.
