The Natural History of Ben :)

Went down to the Barnes and Noble on East Colonial tonight with Leigh to go see Ingrid Newkirk (PETA President). We were about 20 minutes late so we missed her speech but caught a bit of the Q&A session. We bought her new book, said hi and got it signed ( Read more... )

I applaud you, Ben. It was hard for me to be vegan the few months I was hardcore, so I'm just a mere veggie now (only dairy -- I feel guilty and hate to give way to more cast-away veal and sore, infected, pus-ridden nipples, but it's so hard to avoid dairy products). Unfortunately I have to handle meat (as much as it makes me want to cry) while making my boyfriend's steak/chicken/etc. meals. I could refuse to do it, but then he wouldn't eat... (he's actually cut back after I claimed that the flu was really food poisoning... complained to him that he made me get it because I was handling bacteria ridden meat -- my bad?) I know I sound hugely hypocritical, but so be it.

I joined BARC in August but haven't heard anything from them...thus haven't been attending any sort of activities. I really don't know what's going on. Is the leafleting a BARC thing? Get back to me.

ohh, whose leigh? anyhow, ben this is AWESOME of you!! i don't remember if i ever discussed my veganism with you. i've been one for a few years now, but i was a vegetarian before that for a few years when i was in high school. i'm really proud that you made this decision and i agree that many people think that all vegans are crazy anarcho punks or tree hugging hippies and that they can't just be a normal looking person who blends in with the rest of society. here's to breaking boundaries.

also, did you get my email about henry rollins? have you heard about it at all? i need to know how much tickets are so i could go. i really want to go.

"I tended to dismiss the notion of vegetarianism simply because I had learned that animal rights was pointless, and vegetarians always seemed like a crazy bunch. I think false media attention has brought this sort of stigma about vegans to the general public, and it did the same thing to me."
That's so true.

Dude, if you want to be a vegan, more power to you. I couldn't do it, which just proves how much of a bad ass you really are. Thx for making me bacon last Sunday though :)
