Silly Verizon, I can't answer that.

Today I got an email from Verizon.

We recently noticed that one or more lines on your account are still eligible for a phone upgrade. Will you help us understand why?

Whomever is in marketing there needs to think about how they phrase questions. Why one of my phones is still eligible for an upgrade? That's not really a question I can answer. I don't set up the qualifications for upgrade.

Properly phrased, 'Your account has been eligible for upgrade since [x date]. Why haven't you taken the opportunity to upgrade your phone?'

Anyway, thanks to Quas for pointing out the HTC Incredible offer on Newegg; I can re-up my contract (plus add data) and get that phone free. Which is pretty neat, 'cause I've been considering a smart phone of some type for a while now. But then I did some poking around, and it seems the Droid X is a far better phone in just about every aspect, so I'm going to hold out a bit and see if I can get a better deal on that instead.

I see if I re-up my contract (via Newegg) I can get the X for $150, but I've been fortunate to not have to pay for a phone yet so I figure, why start now? I'm still pretty happy with my LG Scoop (it's orange!), and I don't feel a pressing need to have a fancier plan so holding out is not a problem. Additionally, when I upgrade I'm going to want: SD card, car charger, new Bluetooth and protective case (orange!), so the cheaper I can get the phone I want, the better.

Eventually it'd be nice to have an iPad, too. They're just so expensive. Imagine how great it'd be to use one as a portable gallery, or instant reference getter when doing commissions at conventions? Terribly handy, but terribly expensive. I keep getting conflicting reports regarding competitor's iPad-like units from friends; 'they're great, and have usb' 'less expensive and handles Flash' 'terrible pieces not worth the money, get an ipad.' USB and Flash are terribly attractive as options, though. Guess I'll have to wait it out and see what comes of the assorted tablet things.
