mmm...shoe leather!

Ok, not really, but awfully close. What am I talking about? I brought a sandwich to lunch for work last week. My standard, everyday fare - a PB&J on Earthgrains honey wheatberry bread. (what IS a wheatberry, btw?). Well, Thursday I ended up going out to lunch w/ the bf, so I left the sandwich in the fridge at work. No big - I'd just eat it Friday, right? Um. no. Did lunch w/ the bf again. Oh-kay...sandwich is probably getting a little dry, but no big - I'll just bring it home and munch on it Saturday. Great...except I forgot to get it out of the fridge Friday night. So my poor little sandwich sat in the fridge through the weekend until I could get to it today. Amazingly, the crusts were the only really tough parts. The PB&J bits were wonderful, but the bread really was beginning to take on the consistency of shoe leather.
Ah well... lesson learned. Bread won't keep over a weekend :)

How was my weekend? Gee...glad you asked :) Actually, it was nothing in particular - just a standard, run of the mill weekend. The bf's parents were coming down from parts north, so we planned on not getting much time together this weekend. He managed to pop online for a quick chat Friday night, but that was it. Saturday I got a giggle worthy camera phone pic from him - his dad looking spacey while taking a rest @ the mall. Scary part? I knew *exactly* which bench he was sitting on. (For the locals, it's the benches outside JC Penney, across from the Funhouse of Doom - the walled kid's enclosure).
And then, surprise, surprise - the parents up and left early on Saturday. They wanted an early start back home, so the bf came over and we watched another episode of Angel and hung out. It was lovely.

In other news, there's progress in the ongoing battle of unpacking and rediscovering the carpet in my room. The bookshelves have been up since last Friday (umm..the last one in June - whatever date that was), and they've been full since that Saturday. Now it's a process of pulling stuff off the shelves, riffling through it, and deciding whether it heads for the recycle bin or goes back on the shelf. I've weeded out about 3 inches of old school paperwork, and have disposed of at least a foot of books via paperbackswap.com and bookcrossing. There's still about 3 feet of books and personal papers needing to find shelf space, but I think I'll be able to make that happen within a month or so.

Room cleaning is on a brief hiatus until August 1st, though, as I'm back off housesitting for a few weeks. It's the big house out east - the one with the tortoises and cool desert scenery. This year they've added a cat to the mix - a very active, skinny little 10 month old bit of tawny fur. I'm pretty sure he's got a lot of bengal in him - he's got the belly spots, strong bands on his tail, and the build/energy. His fur even shows a bit of bengal ghosting. He sleeps LESS than any cat I've ever known. The bf came over last night around 7pm and the cat was bouncing off walls until he left around 11pm. But then, as soon as I turned off the light, the cat got quiet. I'm not sure where he was, but when I woke up around 3am, he was curled up against me. Stayed there til about 5:45am whence he commenced bouncing off the walls again. *sigh* So much for sleeping past sunrise.

Anyhoo...I should have some pictures of the new house soon (as soon as I'm around to take 'em), and possibly pix from a Tempe road trip later this week. We'll see. Still waiting to hear back from my road trip compatriots first.

More in a few...

general update, the bf
