This is the infamous "Thrifty Block" that was demolished to make way for a condo project that's now stalled. The building here is the actual Thrifty Drug Store (which had a real soda fountain counter that served all kinds of neat ice cream treats). The store had been vacant for some time, and the neighboring buildings were in terrible shape. One building was open to the elements and had cubic feet of pigeon droppings on the floor. Seriously - it was almost knee-deep in places. Would be nice to see the condos come to fruition (even if they switch to apartments or something), but it's a tough call in this economy.
