Heh. I loved Graceling. Loved it. Of course, I had really low expectations going in which probably affected my reaction, but I liked that the guy was dependent on her, that she was the one to dictate the structure and pace of their relationship. And I didn't have so much of a problem with the bad guy because dude, he was crazy bad and that somehow fit with my view of this world.

But the diving horse moment was seriously not cool.

I totally get those good things you mention. I did like their relationship. I was all totally gung ho about her wearing the pants in the relationship and him being the calm, cool, logical one to her fire-breathing rage. I also liked how well they seemed to work together. And that he could keep up with her to a point. They were kind of perfect, in a sense. I thought that was awesome. And that's why I was utterly on board for the first two hundred pages. It just fell apart for me halfway through with that crazy, rushed love scene. And then I got all disillusioned and upset with the plot twists she was dreaming up and the rushed climax with the evil puppy killing king. (The killing small animals just made me laugh, honestly, it was so hokey.) Had that last half of the book not happened, I'd be in love with it.

I am almost totally positive she ripped that diving horse scene right out of the movie. I would have taken captured and tortured with hot pokers = blindness over diving horse = blindness any day of the week.
