A State Of Grace - An Author’s Update

Jan 14, 2010 01:44

To those of you who have not yet abandoned my Live Journal, let me first of all say “Thank You”, and secondly, “I’m Sorry”. Many of you have sent me emails, messages and some of you have even located my Blog to find out where I had gone, which is overwhelmingly lovely. It also hopefully let some of you know I was both alive and, mostly, kicking.

For the rest of you, let me get you up-to-date.

About a month ago, I quit my job and, in a position of deciding what next to do with my career, I took my cats and set out on a fantastical adventure with a small tribe of gypsies. While they were a delightful and cunning people, their nomadic existence made it difficult to tap into the interwebz.

We gained most of our income by way of busking, and after a long day spent strumming my banjo while little Ava danced for coins, my fingers were often too raw to write the pages and updates I would then have had to attach to our lone, sickly carrier pigeon, in hope some compassionate soul would find my notes, follow my enclosed instructions and update my live journal.

Are any of you buying this?

Actually, the part about the job is quite true. Every cycle has its end, and I had come to mine. I set out to reconnect with family I had been sorely neglecting while being completely absorbed in my career. Few of them had internet access, and it was also important for me to surface in the air of the real world for just a while. Sometimes you need a little of the love only family knows how to give.

For those of you here who are authors, I don’t know how your writing process goes, but I always try to be completely honest and open on the page, because if I’m not feeling it, then my characters aren’t feeling it. And if they’re not, how could I expect any of you to feel anything at all? Writing ASOG has required a sustained period of submergence in some fairly rough emotions, and with all of the real-life goings on, I was feeling quite raw and exhausted.

Now, I’m feeling better. I have returned home from my sojourn and will have my internets reconnected shortly. Have no fear, ASOG will return soon.

Thank you all for your patience and every little snippet of support - It has kept me both grounded and grateful for all of you.

Love (and leather),
