My feelings about MSU, as I'm sure anyone who pays attention to my entries or talks to me should know, have always been very ambiguous. But I have realized since getting here yesterday there are many simple things I have missed, like the sound of the train at night while I go to sleep. And I have realized I like more people here than I usually think I do.
And I am excited about this school year. I am excited about my job at the writing consultancy, I am excited about having been elected today for Fundraising Chair for Tower Guard, I am excited about Kaffeestunde, STAND, German Club, German, my International Relations class, going to the football games even though the Spartans will always lose, etc., etc.. It's going to be busy, but I think I will have a good time.
I do not think, however, that I will ever have an attachment to MSU as a place - not like I do to Rochester, or now to Cambridge, or even to Germany. I was more "settled in" with friends in Cambridge after one short month than I am at MSU after an eight month academic year. Sure, there are people at MSU I really enjoy and with whom I love being friends, but not enough.
I'll see if that changes as 2007 begins its slow fade.
