(no subject)
Ok, so I haven't posted in like a bazillion years, and you alls prolly think that I haven't been doing much of anything at all. Well, FOOLED YOU!
Remember way back when (ok, last summer)I did a show that in November I won the Los Angeles Ovation Award for designing? Well, that show went on to win a Garland Award, and an LA Weekly Award. It was also nominated for the LA Drama Critic's Circle Award, but I didn't win that. So, the upshot is that on one show, I got three plastic awards. I don't really have a real comment about that other than saying that I now have a shelf with things on it, and that is kind of cool. Isn't it better to have things that relate to something you've done rather than candle holders and vases that don't actually mean anything?
Anyway, because of buying the house, I now have to earn actual money, and I joined a company called Visual Terrain, and they pay me better than I really deserve. I don't know why. I giggle a lot there, and make jokes, and stay later than most everyone else, and am still behind in the paperwork, etc. that I am required to complete. I also am chastised for not doing the things that I don't know about, or for missing doing one of the 18 things that I've been asked to do each day. Anyway, for this company, I travel a bit, and I've been sent to Germany, and NYC for quick meetings, and last week, I went to Vegas for two days to attend a conference.
I also just completed two shows that I tried to wedge into the few free moments of my weeks. I did My Antonia, a new play with music - written by Scott Schwartz, who is the son of Stephen Schwartz. Stephen actually was a part of the production and wrote some incidental music for the play.
It isn't good.
I don't know why.
I am also opening tonight a show called Dog Sees God, a play that is a mildly irreverent look at the Peanut's Gang in their teenage years. Ok, maybe WAY irreverent. It is hilarious and should be a huge hit. I love it. It is a comedy, and doesn't really require any special lighting, so we have just tried to keep it pretty and light.
