I took my iBook to rehearsal tonight and tried to record the whole thing. The recording software (Griffin's Final Vinyl) said I had enough disk space for 25+ hours (back when my iBook got sick, I replaced the original 30GB disk with 80GB). When I stopped recording the timer was up to 82 minutes, but the file I saved is only 38:24 long. I guess I did something wrong.

It's kinda interesting to listen to the rehearsal. The microphone picked up things I couldn't hear where I was, and other things it didn't pick up. Some things sounded better, and some worse. And the microphone still wasn't anywhere near where the listening audience will be. (They won't be sitting on the railing of a church balcony.) Many more of the problems are likely to go unnoticed farther away. And left and right are reversed from my normal spot. (I could just put the headphones on backwards.)

Anyway, I should be able to split this file into separate pieces of music and do what I like with them. Convert them to mp3, put them on a web page, burn a CD. I may never record to tape again. And I need better microphones. There's a lot of noise in this recording, and I think it's probably from my cheap, ancient microphones. I started to do microphone research months ago, but got distracted.
