I've just seen an
animated reconstruction of the missing
Doctor Who story
Shada. I thought it was quite a good story, and it's a shame the original was never completed. The presentation format was actually pretty effective. The sound was probably nearly the same as for live-action video (although it's too bad they didn't get Tom Baker's voice for the Doctor), and crude animations have got to be a lot cheaper than actually doing the effects to create passable planets, space ships, and silicon-based life forms with molten lava in the cracks of their skin. And I'm glad to finally simply know what the story was about. (Never mind that tidbits about Gallifrey's history are always tempting.) It does take just as long as watching it on the telly would have, and I missed having pause and rewind controls. (I watch almost everything recorded.)
