Pennsic VLI - Peace-Week Wednesday
Wednesday 08:04
Just woke up. A 09:00 class is possible, if I hurry. There's a recorder session, which would mean lugging instruments. ☹
Wednesday 17:50
I slept with earplugs last night.
Good classes today, and I got to a 09:00. There was an Irish language class that I'm sure would have been interesting, but it was very crowded so I went to Hell instead. I decided not to lug recorders along, and the Micro-Mosaic class (which overlapped with the Recorder Jam) listed with materials available for 10 managed to accommodate everyone (more than 20). My mosaic looks like something a 3rd-grader might have made. (I think I might do better with normal mosaics than "micro".) I had 49 classes selected as potentially interesting, and went to 6.
The ever-so-lovely (be still, my heart) Erin was at the Iceland Commonwealth and mosaics classes. I ran into several people who were genuinely glad to see me (Lady Bugga was also at the Iceland class), and it's (beyond) nice to be welcomed so warmly.

16:001.0 hrA&S 3Renaissance Slasher Movie: The Revenger's TragedyViscountess Jimena Montoya
Let's talk about this over-the-top revenge drama! If you thought that Renaissance drama was stuffy or refined, you have a big surprise in store. This play starts with a man holding the skull of his poisoned girlfriend while he plots revenge on the lecherous duke who murdered her for turning him down, and it only gets more extreme from there. Middleton gives us a play with all the revenge you can handle, full of sex, betrayal, deceit, poison, stabbing, and gore. This class is a facilitated discussion of the play, its treatment of revenge, and its place in Renaissance pop culture. Knowledge of the play is not absolutely necessary, but students should ideally have read the text. (Available in paperback or epub from the New Mermaids line at Bloomsbury publishing. A free electronic copy of the play is available at
http://www.tech.org/~cleary/reven.html ) Parental guidance suggested for children under 16.
We had a massive thunderstorm between 14:00-15:00, conveniently during a break I took from classes and after I got back to camp. I helped secure tents before the rain started, and I've already had occasion to use my brand-new umbrella.
Negligible Optima charging today.
Wednesday 22:28
I've got a set of music (for both choirs) punched and put in a binder. Known World Choir rehearsals start tomorrow at 10:00; our concert's next Thursday night.
Dinner tonight was beef "stew" with plenty of vegetables. Most of the liquid had cooked off the stew, but it was still tasty.
Wednesday 23:30
I've had a shower, and I'm going to get to bed at a reasonable time tonight. ☺
Earplugs again tonight. There's more drumming than last night. Sometimes I can sleep through it, and sometimes not. I seem to be overly aware of the I-79 traffic noise too.
