In my inbox today:Lead Singer Of Linkin Park, Chester Bennington, Commits Suicide At The Age Of 41
I have never heard of Chester Bennington, and I've never seen
"Linkin Park" spelled that way before. Why should this be in my mailbox? You are receiving this email because of your relationship with StuffLoads.

I have never heard of StuffLoads, and there is no justifiable reason they should think I have any "relationship" with them. I have never been to their website. I did not subscribe.

It's not fake news in the sense of being untrue; it's fake in the sense of not being news - information that merits my attention and increases my understanding of the world.

And then there's Google, now "protecting" my security:New sign-in from Firefox on Linux

Hi syntonic,

Well, folks, I'm not cool about how Google is tracking as much as it can of what we do online, so I delete all of Google's cookies after I use GMail or Google search. So they always see new cookies, and I get these security check-in emails every time I check my GMail accounts. ☹ My IP at home changes occasionally too. Linux updates also change the kernel version, which also makes GMail think it's a different device. (Why should GMail know my kernel version?) And I might still use either of my previous two laptops (or my work laptop) to check GMail, so that's more different devices (which share the same changeable IP and also get updates).

Thanks for trying, Google, but sending emails (to multiple accounts) every time I check GMail quickly becomes more noise than help. On the plus side, I check GMail infrequently enough that I would notice receiving these emails when I had not checked GMail.13
