lock-in?

(NPR affiliate) WAMU is starting its spring pledge drive membership campaign today. Someone on-air just said something about making automated monthly donations to "lock-in the price".

This is not a purchase, it's a donation. You decide how much to give, if you give at all. It's not a "market" with fluctuating rates. It's not a negotiation. You can decrease - or increase - or stop - your donation at any time. "Locking-in" a price doesn't make any sense.
