I just replaced the rear shift cable on the new bike.
I've replaced it once before, in October. There's been no problems with the other cables (front shifter and front/rear brakes), so I wonder whether this is a design flaw with the cable routing. The wear is at the same point, at the rear derailleur. The remaining cable, cut short at that point, will probably work as a front cable replacement. [No, it turns out this bike needs longer "rear" cables for front as well.]
